Investing in Future Leaders Who Serve Others

The APA Albert J. DiArcangelo Legacy Scholarship Fund was established to honor the life, values, and lasting legacy of Albert J. DiArcangelo, whose unwavering commitment to integrity, perseverance, compassion, and service left a profound impact on those around him.
This scholarship recognizes a graduating high school senior who exemplifies these same qualities through leadership, community involvement, academic dedication, and a genuine commitment to helping others.
Through this annual award, Affinity Patient Advocacy seeks to invest in the next generation of leaders who understand that success is measured not only by personal achievement, but by the positive difference they make in the lives of others.

Scholarship Award

One graduating high school senior will be selected from Charleston County School District each year to receive a $5,000 scholarship to support their education at an accredited college or university.

Important Dates:
Application Opens: January 1, 2027
Application Deadline: March 31, 2027
Scholarship Recipient Announced: April 23, 2027

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:
• Be a graduating high school senior in Charleston County School District
• Be accepted to an accredited college or university.
• Demonstrate leadership, integrity, and service within their school or community.
• Intend to pursue higher education immediately following graduation.
• Submit all required application materials by the stated deadline.

Required Application Materials

Applicants must submit the following:
• Completed Scholarship Application.
• Current High School Transcript.
• Proof of Acceptance to an Accredited College or University.
• Resume detailing extracurricular activities, leadership positions, volunteer work, employment,
   honors, and achievements
• One Letter of Recommendation from a teacher, counselor, coach, employer, or community leader

Personal Essay Guidelines

Essay Prompt:
Albert J. DiArcangelo believed that true success is defined by character, compassion, and the impact we have on others.

 

In 1,000 words or fewer, describe a meaningful experience in which you demonstrated leadership, service, perseverance, or compassion. Explain how this experience has influenced your personal growth, future goals, and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
The APA Albert J. DiArcangelo Legacy Scholarship Fund is intended to recognize the authentic voice, experiences, and character of each applicant.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools—including but not limited to ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grammarly AI, or similar technologies—is strictly prohibited in the creation, drafting, editing, enhancement, or revision of the scholarship essay.
All essays must be independently written by the applicant and represent the applicant’s original thoughts, experiences, and writing abilities.
Affinity Patient Advocacy reserves the right to request additional verification, interviews, or writing samples if questions arise regarding authorship. Applications containing AI-generated or substantially AI-assisted content may be disqualified.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the Affinity Patient Advocacy Board of Directors.
The recipient will be selected based on:
        ●  Leadership and Character
        ●  Community Service and Volunteerism
        ●  Academic Achievement
        ●  Personal Integrity
        ●  Quality, Authenticity, and Impact of Essay Response
        ●  Demonstrated Commitment to Helping Others

The decision of the Affinity Patient Advocacy Board of Directors is final.


Recipient Commitment:
The recipient of the APA Albert J. DiArcangelo Legacy Scholarship will be expected to continue Albert’s legacy of service by completing 100 hours of volunteer service with Affinity Patient Advocacy following the award of the scholarship prior to the start of their freshman college/university year.

Volunteer opportunities may include community outreach initiatives, fundraising events, patient advocacy programs, awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, and other approved service activities that support APA’s mission.


Applicant Certification

By submitting an application, applicants certify that:
        ●  All information provided is accurate and complete.
        ●  All written responses are entirely their own original work.
        ●  No artificial intelligence tools were used in the preparation of the essay or other written submissions.
        ●  They understand and agree to the scholarship requirements and recipient obligations.
